The exhibition is a collection of photographs commemorating Polish Hasidic Jews, it is a documentation of places that the author wants to save from being forgotten. It will be open from September 2nd until October 31st in the Center for Jewish Culture and Education in the White Stork Synagogue.
I have been interested in the history of Jews for a long time. As a photographer I felt that I needed to speak out on this subject. In 1990, on my way back from Lviv, I had to spend a few hours in Przemyśl. I went to a bookstore and bought a copy of "Hasidic tales" by Martin Buber. That illuminating book was the reason why three years later I found myself in the city of Bełz, where I took the first pictures. A while later my friend Jerzy Budziszewski (Joshua Ben Or), an artist residing in New York, confirmed my certainty about the necessity of photographing places connected to Hasidic history. I am searching for those locations, choosing snapshots of that reality, avoiding modern attributes such as TV antennas, screaming adverts, cars parked all over the place.
