Gerard Edery, born in Casablanca, grew up in Paris and New York. Being a master of Sephardic music tradition, this is a unique opportunity to experience and learn from this great artist here in Wrocław.
Sephardic Music is World Music: Origins and Evolution – Oral traditions are fluid! It is the responsibility of contemporary artists to redefine and renew oral traditions, keeping them vital for today’s audiences and sustainable for future generations. In this workshop, Gerard Edery will present an incredibly diverse repertoire of songs from the Iberian Peninsula (pre and post expulsion) and from the far-reaching Sephardic Diaspora, spanning many centuries and including some dozen languages. He will also share his personal and professional experiences in helping to keep this vibrant tradtiion alive through his numerous performances, collaborations, recordings, songbook, videos and original shows like Song of the Turtledove (musical theater adaptation of Shir Hashirim), Flamenco Sepharad, The Minstrel and the Storyteller (with acclaimed storyteller, author and teacher Peninnah Schram), Sons of Sepharad (with cantors Alberto Mizrahi and Aaron Bensoussan) and his latest multi-media powerhouse,The Spirit of Sepharad.
